My research interests are in Computer Science Education, student recruitment and retention, and Computer Science teacher preparation and certification. My dissertation research investigated the teacher's perception of the characteristics that contribute to the effectiveness of pedagogical tools used in introductory programming classes and the reason(s) that a particular pedagogical tool is initially chosen to be used by the teacher. My teaching has always incorporated tools. I do not hesitate to try new techniques and new pedagogical tools that might ease and promote the learning of programming.
